From the NHS Board President

Hello NHS families, and congratulations to our students for making it through the school year halfway point. Second semester transitions are always a good time to reflect on what has been accomplished and prepare for what comes next.

Like many of you, I had the opportunity last week to attend the first family education night for high school students, and hear from several speakers on job coaching services and opportunities after high school. To be honest, I have been satisfied the last several years just to have found a school that works for our child. Thoughts of careers and/or post- K-12 education have been distant aspirations. Still, time marches forward and the transition to what happens after high school eventually comes.

We are all very fortunate that New Horizon not only helps our students succeed academically, but also prepare for them to reach their full life potential. Part of this is through connection to vocational service organizations like those that presented last week, but it also includes a range of other wraparound services including social service agencies, regional colleges, and our own transition extension program, THRIVE. If you are interested in learning more, I encourage you to contact Marla or Christina Shaefer in our THRIVE program for more information.

As always, thank you to all of you for supporting your kids. I wish you all the best for the new semester, and please continue to stay safe and healthy!

Respectfully,

Mark Sullivan
