Special Education Teacher
New Horizon School is seeking a special education teacher for the 2023 - 2024 school year. The new teacher must have empathy for and a genuine interest in developing positive education experiences for elementary, middle school, and/or high school students with mild to moderate Learning Disabilities, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and executive function difficulties. Applicant must be prepared to teach math, reading, writing, and either social studies or science.
Qualifications
- Valid Washington State teaching certificate required
- Special Education endorsement required
- Experience as a special education teacher or relevant role
- Bachelor’s Degree required
- Master’s Degree preferred

Salary

High School Spanish Teacher
New Horizon School is seeking a high school Spanish teacher for the 2023 -2024 school year. The new teacher must have interest in and desire to provide instruction in speaking, reading, writing, and understanding Spanish language to high school students with mild to moderate Learning Disabilities, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and executive function difficulties. Applicant must be prepared to teach beginning and intermediate Spanish to small groups of students in Gr. 9-12 as well as other possible academic subjects such as math, reading, writing, social studies or science, to small skill groups of students in Gr. 4-12.
Qualifications- Valid Washington State teaching certificate required

Special Education Secondary Transition Teacher
New Horizon School is seeking a special education secondary transition educator for the 2023 - 2024 school year. The new teacher must have empathy for and a genuine interest in developing positive transition education experiences for students with Developmental Disabilities ages 18 and beyond.
Must be willing to instruct young adult students in transition planning, functional academics, self-determination/self-management, employment readiness, independent living, and social skills. Instruct young adult students in connecting with service agencies (such as DDA and DVR). Collaborate with community service agencies and supported employment service providers to develop volunteer, job shadowing, and/or work experiences for students. Attend transition meetings, transition fairs, agency workshops, and supported employment vendor seminars. Plan and participate in community based activities with young adult students.

- Assist young adult students with Developmental Disabilities transition from high school and into employment and independent living
- Plan and teach lessons and community-based secondary transition activities to support individual student needs
- Adapt and modify curriculum to meet individual student needs
- Assess and report student progress
- Provide opportunities for students to practice and generalize skills to natural settings
- Develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with various service agencies such as the Department of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR), the Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA), and supported employment providers
- Work collaboratively with Seattle/Renton/Kent area programs of benefit to students with Developmental Disabilities
- Teach students to use digital tools and assistive technologies
- Create a learning environment that encourages positive social interactions, respect, and rapport
- Consult with other teachers and therapists to plan for individual student needs, required modifications and accommodations, and use of assistive technology
- Knowledge of or willingness to learn about current legislation, regulations, and ethical issues related to the provision of secondary transition educational services, including Individuals Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and American Disabilities Act (ADA)
- Knowledge of or willingness to learn how to monitor student progress on IEPs, provide input into the development of IEPs, and participate in IEP and parent meetings
