Marla Veliz has expertise in both teaching and education administration. She grew up in Seattle, Washington, graduated from the University of Washington with a B.A. in Anthropology, and earned a M.A. in Anthropology and a M.A. in Education from the University of Chicago. She holds a Washington State Lifetime Continuing Elementary & Secondary Teaching Certificate.
Marla has been a Special Education Administrator at New Horizon School since 1995. She manages the daily operations of the school, addresses student and parent concerns, supervises curriculum and instruction, oversees admissions, and assures accreditation and approvals. She has served on the NHS Board of Directors since 1998. Marla received the Administrator of the Year Award from the Washington Federation of Independent Schools in 2008, was appointed to the University of Washington Bothell’s Professional Education Advisory Board in 2011, and was appointed to the King County Developmental Disabilities Board in 2013.
Holds the position of Administrator/CEO for New Horizon Schools board.
