History of New Horizon School
New Horizon School was founded in 1995 by a group of committed educators and parents/guardians to provide a successful learning environment for students with learning disabilities, attention deficits, and other learning differences.
The school received private school approval, non-public agency approval, and 501(c)(3) status in 1995. It opened with grades K- 9 students in August of 1995, with the intention of adding on one grade level per year.
New Horizon School remained in that space for two years and then moved to leased space in Burien, Washington for the 1997-98 school year. In 1997 the school received accreditation from the National Association of Schools and Colleges (NASC). In fall 1998 New Horizon School moved to its current location in Renton, Washington, and celebrated its first graduating class of seniors the following June. The school purchased its site in August 1999, and made significant modifications and expansion to the existing facility to accommodate its student population and educational programs.
Today New Horizon School serves grades 6-12 students from a wide geographical region ranging from Issaquah to Poulsbo, from Everett to Tacoma, and everywhere in between. The school offers a wide range of academic programs and extracurricular activities with accommodations to meet the needs of its learners.
